As much as BFA was bad, the HoA wasn’t a bad system when WOW Classic TBC Gold they secured it up and they could’ve easily done more with this going into Shadowlands.
Why have we gone through 4 iterations of garrisons now? Why not just base it SW/ORG and enlarge upon it with every new xpac instead of going from Garrisons into Order Halls to this fucking boat to Covenants. Have a garrison type case in SW/ORG. Plan around it being used longer term, new expansion released and you’re able to construct the expansion specific building that’ll advance the narrative. Or the NPCs only appear to advance the narrative. Having it as an example from the big cities will solve the”everyone is in their own garrison” issue.
It is silly that so much development time gets spent on growth specific material. Island expeditions. Warfronts. Like at what point in development did they decide to give up on warfronts? Or when they figure out that warfronts weren’t going to work as planned. It was a major feature of the bfa expansion and imo was mostly a dud of a feature. Same with islands. It’s a massive waste of money to design a system which only continues an expansion.
I agree that the HoA was a good system. It’s so hard for me though to get round the thought that blizz is aware of what they are doing when they employ a system. They place systems in half finished intentionally. Take a look at the legendaries at legion. Participants were saying, making articles on official forums, the machine they were applying for legendaries was terrible and was just going to upset the player base. Silence. It had been set in as is of course, people were upset. We had people in my guild who had 3 legendaries at the onset of EN. Even people who had at least one didn’t necessarily get what they wanted/needed. It took blizzard buffing the fall rates on legiondaries to make it feel better using”poor luck protection”. It took the entire growth for them to put the system as it ought to have been in the beginning. They understand but for the sake of MAUs they include in fans and changes to systems to get people to stay or come back.
Additionally enhancement: got broken at the onset of the expansionwith a tried rework(Legion), were really great for a week because of a bug and bad equipment so nobody scaled nevertheless. Bug got fixed, and we were in the garbage for the next 3 raids, with continuous dangling of’we had no time this patchwe guarantee we fix it in cheap WOW TBC Classic Gold the next one’. 9.3 came out and they said, has to wait till growth.
